What is a growth, SEO and GEO consultant?
A growth, SEO and GEO consultant makes a company easier to find and more valuable to the people who arrive. Growth work decides which channels and experiments deserve effort. SEO makes the pages rank for what buyers search. GEO (generative engine optimization) makes the brand cited inside AI answers from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews.
New to the terms? Start with SEO vs AEO vs GEO and answer engine optimization.
The output is not a slide deck. It is a page map, a technical fix list, a set of growth experiments with owners, and a dashboard that shows which pages and channels bring users who stay.
The 90-day growth marketing strategy and search roadmap
| Weeks | Focus | What you get |
| 1 to 2 | Diagnose: search console data, page performance, AI crawler access, analytics and conversion funnels | A prioritized list of fixes and the pages that already get impressions |
| 3 to 4 | Build the foundation: technical SEO, a keyword-to-page map and the structured data each page needs | Crawlable, indexable pages with one target question each |
| 5 to 8 | Ship the search and growth program: comparison and use-case pages, free tools, answer-first content and the first experiments | Pages indexed and climbing, with experiments running against a target |
| 9 to 12 | Measure and compound: GEO prompt tests, organic and AI referral analysis, and the next experiment backlog | A monthly report, a repeatable process and a hand-over to your team |
Scope, deliverables and price are agreed in writing before work starts. No guaranteed rankings, and no work without measurable targets.
Growth strategist, growth marketing consultant or growth consultant?
The titles overlap, and buyers use them interchangeably. A growth strategist usually sets the growth model and the experiment plan. A growth marketing consultant runs acquisition and lifecycle channels. A growth consultant covers the whole funnel, from search visibility to activation and retention. I cover all three for AI, SaaS and technology teams, and growth hacking work follows the same rule as everything else: a hypothesis, a target and a stop rule.
Fractional growth lead or project consultant?
A project engagement fits a defined problem: a relaunch, a migration or a 90-day roadmap. A fractional growth lead fits ongoing ownership: a part-time leader who runs the search program, the experiments and the reporting every month. Many companies start with the project and continue on retainer once the roadmap is proven.
Who this is for, and who it is not for
A good fit: AI, SaaS and technology companies with paying customers, a product buyers research before they buy, and enough traffic or search demand to measure against.
Not a fit: pre-product companies, local businesses, e-commerce stores, and anyone looking for link packages or guaranteed rankings.
Experience behind the work
I am currently Growth Lead at Appear (see the case studies for detail). Before that I led growth marketing and organic search at Xylo AI, a software platform selling to financial advisors across North America, where pipeline grew 3x over six months. At Tappstr in Amsterdam, organic traffic grew by more than 50%. I also led growth at ZEPCAM in Delft, drove growth at MetaWorks in Berlin, and analysed customer experience data for enterprise SaaS clients at Chattermill in London.
That mix matters for growth and search work: regulated buyers, product-led and community-led growth, and North American as well as European markets.
Growth, SEO and GEO FAQ
What does a growth, SEO and GEO consultant do?
A growth, SEO and GEO consultant makes a company easier to find and more useful to the people who arrive. That means technical SEO so Google can crawl and index the right pages, keyword strategy mapped to pages, generative engine optimization so AI assistants cite the brand, and growth experiments that turn visitors into users who stay.
What is the difference between a growth strategist and a growth marketing consultant?
A growth strategist decides where growth should come from and how the experiments are ranked. A growth marketing consultant builds and runs the channels that produce it. For most B2B SaaS companies the same person does both at the start, and the split comes later.
Is growth hacking the same as growth marketing?
Growth hacking is the fast, experiment-led side of growth marketing. It is useful for finding a channel quickly. Growth marketing also covers the slower work that keeps a channel profitable: search, content, lifecycle email and retention.
What is GEO (generative engine optimization)?
Generative engine optimization (GEO) is the practice of getting your brand cited and recommended inside AI-generated answers from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and Google AI Overviews. It builds on SEO, because AI tools retrieve from search indexes, so pages must be crawlable, indexed and answer specific questions with sourced facts.
What is the difference between SEO, AEO and GEO?
SEO earns rankings and clicks in search results. AEO (answer engine optimization) earns the direct answer, such as a featured snippet or AI Overview. GEO earns citations and mentions inside answers written by generative AI tools. The three share one foundation: crawlable pages, clear answers and trustworthy sources.
How much does a growth or SEO consultant cost?
It depends on scope. A fixed-scope roadmap is priced as a project, and a fractional growth lead is a monthly retainer for a set number of hours each week. Published 2026 pricing guides put most fractional growth and CMO retainers at roughly $5,000 to $25,000 a month, depending on hours, seniority and scope. I agree a written scope and price before any work starts.
How long does SEO and GEO take to work?
Technical fixes and better titles can move rankings within weeks. New pages on a young domain usually take two to six months to rank for competitive terms. AI assistants can pick up indexed pages within days, but earning citations for competitive questions usually takes months and depends on authority and mentions elsewhere.
Do you work with startups?
Yes. Early-stage AI, SaaS and technology startups usually need a technical base that search engines can read, a small set of low-competition keyword clusters, a few pages and free tools that can rank on a young domain, and experiments that show which users stay.
Do you write the content too?
Yes, or I work with your writers. I write the pages that matter most for search and AI, such as comparison, alternatives, pricing and tool pages, and set the briefs, structure and editorial standard for the rest.
